Violeta Barrena (Violin)

 

Violeta forms one half of the exciting violin and classical guita duo: 'Duo Diez' and we are incredibly excited to be collaborating with them for our 2012 Christmas concert.

                                                               Award winning violinist Violeta Barrena is a most exciting young musician, having performed in many prestigious venues, including The Royal Albert Hall, St. John's Smith Square, the Roundhouse and St. Martin in the Fields. She has also played at the Hatchlands, Kent and Guildford Music Festivals. Violeta was offered a place at the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Professor Howard Davis and Professor Tomotada Soh. During her time at the Academy, she won the Winifred Small Solo Violin Competition for Bach and Paganini, and was a finalist in the National Pablo de Sarasate Violin Competition in Madrid. After graduating with First Class Honours, she went on to study for a Masters degree at the Royal College of Music under Professor Itzhak Rashkovsky. She has participated in master-classes with Maxim Vengerov, Pinchas Zuchermann, Gordan Nikolich, Tasmin Little, Thomas Brandis, Keiko Wataya, Natalia Lomeiko, Remus Azotei and Alexsandar Pavlovic. Violeta does outreach work all over britain through the scheme Live Music Now with her duo partner, pianist Nafis Umerkulova. Her interests as a violinst extend beyond the realms of classical music, and she likes to explore different musical styles. Most recently, she has performed at Pizza Express Jazz Club and Ronnie Scotts, with internationally renowned folk and jazz Peppe Servillo, Enzo Zirilli, Renato D'aiello and Antonio Forcione.
